SummitIG Acquires DF&I to Expand Dark Fiber Reach into Maryland

The deal bolsters the company’s infrastructure density in Northern Virginia while establishing a new strategic foothold in the Maryland market.

The integration incorporates approximately 60 miles of network stretching into Baltimore, effectively connecting the Washington metropolitan area's data hubs with the broader Maryland region. This expansion complements the company’s existing 1,100-mile footprint, providing hyperscalers and enterprise clients with increased route diversity as demand for AI-driven cloud workloads intensifies.

Sunny Kumar, CEO of SummitIG, characterized the acquisition as a milestone for scaling the firm's platform to meet customer requirements for high-capacity connectivity. Blue Owl, which grew the DF&I network sixfold over the past six years, identified SummitIG as the logical successor to manage the assets. The transaction, backed by SDC Capital Partners, remains part of a broader growth trajectory for SummitIG, which currently operates across five U.S. markets and recently launched a joint venture in Mexico.
