Medical College of Wisconsin Leads Major Study on TBI Rehabilitation

The project, known as the Veteran’s Interdisciplinary Care for TBI and co-Occurring disorders Rehabilitation Trial (VICTORY-RCT), is sponsored by the Avalon Action Alliance. It seeks to address the current lack of consistent, evidence-based care for those suffering from the long-term effects of brain trauma. Dr. Michael McCrea, a professor of neurosurgery at MCW, will head the research as principal investigator, overseeing a program that stretches across five clinical sites nationwide.

Beyond the MCW’s own BRAVE program, the trial involves the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Florida Health Jacksonville, University of Colorado Anschutz, and Jefferson Health. Avalon Action Alliance CEO Joel Brennan stated that the study is a critical move toward validating comprehensive rehabilitation methods and establishing new standards of care. The four-year investigation aims to provide the clinical evidence necessary to improve treatment outcomes for individuals navigating invisible wounds.
