Athens Bar Line Takes Top Spot in Inaugural European Rankings
Line in Athens has claimed the top spot in the first-ever Europe's 50 Best Bars ranking, unveiled this evening in Amsterdam. The Greek establishment earned the title for its signature fermentation-led approach, which integrates house-made wines and beers into a menu that emphasizes experimental techniques alongside accessible, refined flavors.
The inaugural list, sponsored by Perrier, highlights a diverse landscape spanning 22 cities across the continent. Following the leader, The Bar in Front of the Bar secured second place, while Barcelona’s Sips took third, simultaneously earning the title of The Best Bar in Spain. Rounding out the top five, Norway’s Himkok and France’s Bar Nouveau claimed fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Individual honors were distributed across the industry during the ceremony. Salvatore Calabrese received the Roku Industry Icon Award, and Giorgio Bargiani was named the Altos Bartenders' Bartender. Design and hospitality excellence were also recognized: Budapest’s Hide won the SevenRooms Best Bar Design Award, while Slovakia’s Mirror Bar earned the Michter's Art of Hospitality Award. Sustainability efforts were spotlighted as well, with Paris’s De Vie receiving the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award.
