LBB Specialties to Distribute Borregaard Wood-Based BioVanillin
Norwalk-based LBB Specialties has secured an agreement to distribute Borregaard’s BioVanillin product line across the United States and Canada. The partnership aims to provide North American food and beverage manufacturers with a scalable, plant-based flavor solution derived from sustainably managed Norway spruce forests.
The centerpiece of this collaboration is Borregaard’s EuroVanillin SUPREME, a product line that has been in production since 1962. Unlike standard vanillin synthesized from crude oil, this wood-based alternative utilizes 100% renewable carbon. According to the manufacturer, the process results in a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions and holds the distinction of being the only PEFC-certified vanillin currently available on the market.
This distribution deal targets a market currently grappling with a persistent supply deficit in natural vanilla beans and increasing consumer scrutiny regarding synthetic additives. By leveraging LBB Specialties’ infrastructure in the Food & Nutrition and Flavor & Fragrance sectors, the companies intend to integrate these sustainable ingredients into diverse applications, including dairy, confectionery, and bakery products. Toby Schmelz, vice president of Food & Beverage at LBB Specialties, noted that the move allows the distributor to pair technical channel access with a measurable sustainability profile that remains relevant to modern brand requirements.
