GT Independence Named Vendor for WA Cares Fund Benefit Distribution

Starting July 1, Washington workers eligible for the WA Cares Fund gain access to a new financial management partner tasked with streamlining long-term care support. Michigan-based GT Independence will manage the purchasing and reimbursement process for adaptive technology and transportation services for qualified residents across the state.

The partnership follows a localized pilot program conducted earlier this year in Lewis, Mason, Spokane, and Thurston counties. As the state-wide rollout begins, GT Independence serves as the primary mechanism for participants to secure necessary equipment or cover transportation costs, either through direct purchases or by receiving reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses. Most state employees contribute to this fund automatically through payroll deductions.

To utilize these benefits, residents must first secure approval from the WA Cares Fund before registering for a dedicated GT Independence online account. The company facilitates the administrative side of the program, handling the paperwork required to pay caregivers, family members, or vendors for approved services. D. Pearl Barnett, president of GT Independence, noted that the organization aims to simplify the benefit experience, ensuring participants can access support resources with minimal friction.
