K2 Space Expands Satellite Manufacturing Operations to Seattle
Seeking to tap into the region's dense aerospace talent pool, satellite manufacturer K2 Space is opening a new engineering office in the Seattle area. The expansion marks the startup’s second satellite location outside of its California headquarters, aiming to bolster software and autonomy development for its high-power spacecraft.
The new Pacific Northwest hub will focus on flight software, autonomy, and the low-level systems required to manage the company's large, high-payload satellites. CEO and Co-Founder Karan Kunjur cited Seattle's engineering reputation as a primary driver for the move, noting that the team will work on systems designed to push the limits of current orbital capabilities.
K2 Space enters this growth phase backed by significant financial momentum, including more than $500 million in capital and $1 billion in signed contracts. After successfully launching its first satellite in March 2026, the four-year-old firm aims to reach a production capacity of hundreds of satellites annually by 2030. CTO and Co-Founder Neel Kunjur emphasized that the company’s headcount has surged to nearly 300 employees, and the Seattle office is expected to attract additional technical experts to help scale production and refine innovations like their dual-channel Hall thrusters.
