Salado Community Rallies to Transform Home of Longtime Veteran

After three decades of service to her country and fellow veterans, Marine Corps veteran Minnie Whitzel found herself sleeping on an air mattress in a home requiring urgent repairs. In a show of support, her Salado neighbors and the television series Moving With The Military intervened to renovate her residence.

Whitzel, who founded VFW Post 12235, spent her career ensuring no veteran felt forgotten. When difficult life circumstances left her in need of assistance, the community mobilized to restore her independence. Over several days, volunteers completed extensive work, including plumbing repairs, drainage improvements, and interior upgrades, turning a neglected house back into a comfortable home. The project serves as an early feature for the upcoming America 250 initiative, which highlights the values of service and sacrifice.

Hosts Maria and Patrick Reed emphasized that the renovation was driven by the collective effort of local businesses and residents rather than just the physical construction. Title sponsor Newrez supported the mission, continuing a partnership that has seen the team complete over 50 home makeovers for military families. The transformation will be featured in a special episode debuting July 2, 2026, across VetStreamTV, YouTube, and Facebook.
