Meta Launches Pocket, an AI Tool for Creating Interactive Gizmos

Mark Zuckerberg is pushing Meta further into generative experiences with the release of Pocket, a social app designed for building and sharing interactive AI-driven gizmos. The platform allows users to craft custom mini-programs that respond to touch, phone tilt, and camera inputs, signaling a new chapter for Meta’s social ecosystem.

The app follows Meta’s acquisition of technology from Atma Sciences Inc., the creators of the Gizmo app. Meta secured a non-exclusive license for the underlying tech, resulting in an interface that mirrors the original Gizmo experience. According to the Google Play description, these creations can integrate music, photos, and camera data, with some gizmos capable of analyzing their surroundings. Users can also authorize others to remix their published projects, turning individual creations into collaborative social objects.

Despite the global rollout, access remains restricted. Current listings on the Google Play store indicate that the app is not yet available for users in the United States, suggesting a phased geographic release or ongoing regional testing. The move aligns with Zuckerberg’s broader strategy to integrate AI directly into social media interactions, shifting the platform from passive content consumption to active, AI-assisted creation.
