Happy Valley turns football pitch for Eight to Glory horse race
On July 8, the Happy Valley racecourse will transform into an unlikely football stage as The Hong Kong Jockey Club hosts "Eight to Glory, presented by Lenovo." The event features eight thoroughbreds representing the quarter-finalists of the current global football tournament, with jockeys trading traditional silks for national team jerseys.

The race serves as a cultural bridge between two of the world’s most popular sports. Each of the eight horses will carry the banner of a nation set to compete in the tournament’s quarter-final round. Casper Stylsvig, the Club’s Executive Director of Sports Business, stated that the initiative aims to unite the national pride inherent in both football and racing in a way that has never been attempted on this scale before.
The event coincides with the Club's new partnership with Lenovo, the official technology partner of the FIFA World Cup 2026. As part of this collaboration, fans can access an immersive AI-powered football zone at the track, marking Hong Kong as the only city outside the tournament’s host regions to feature this specific technology experience. Beyond the spectacle, the race carries a philanthropic weight; the Club will make donations to eight different charities nominated by the horse owners, reinforcing its position as a major global contributor to social causes. Fans can follow the event through the Club’s official digital channels, which will provide real-time updates and behind-the-scenes coverage throughout the night.
