Nelnet and Atrium Campus Forge Strategic Integration for Universities
Lincoln-based Nelnet Campus Commerce is joining forces with Atrium Campus to overhaul the digital infrastructure of higher education institutions. By linking Nelnet’s payment processing capabilities with Atrium’s cloud-native mobile credential systems, the partnership aims to replace fragmented legacy platforms with a unified, mobile-first ecosystem for students and administrators.

The collaboration integrates Nelnet’s PCI Level 1-validated payment technology—which currently supports over 1,100 institutions—with Atrium’s flexible, vendor-agnostic management tools. For campus financial officers and bursars, the move addresses the growing need to consolidate complex operations, ranging from meal plans and dining point-of-sale systems to secure access control and tuition payment plans.
"Partnering with technology-forward companies like Atrium Campus is how we expand access and operational efficiency to every corner of campus," said Jackie Strohbehn, President of Nelnet Campus Commerce. By moving away from proprietary, rigid hardware, the companies intend to reduce the administrative burden on universities while catering to a student demographic that demands seamless digital access to all campus services. Sami Takieddine, Director of Partnerships at Atrium, noted that the integration will prioritize creating a best-of-breed network, with technical alignment slated for the coming months.
