Unseenlabs Deploys Gen 2 Microsatellite to Expand RF Intelligence

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base, carrying the BRO-31 satellite into orbit. This launch marks the debut of Unseenlabs’ second-generation constellation, a 150-kilogram microsatellite designed to detect radio frequency signals across land, sea, and space with significantly higher power than its predecessors.

The new satellite builds on the company’s proprietary monosatellite technology, which allows for the geolocation of RF emitters using a single craft rather than a complex formation. While the original Gen 1 satellites focused on maritime surveillance, the Gen 2 series extends coverage to L, S, C, X, and Ku-bands. This expansion enables the monitoring of up to 1 million square kilometers, providing intelligence even in poor weather or complex electromagnetic environments.

Craig Brower, president and CEO of Unseenlabs US, noted that the upgrade integrates directly into GEOINT workflows. This shift is intended to give defense and commercial analysts earlier indications of activity, particularly in contested areas where GNSS jamming and satellite interference are becoming frequent. By moving from 15-kilogram nanosatellites to the 150-kilogram BRO-31 platform, the company aims to offer a more discerning view of global infrastructure and security threats from orbit.
