iRobot Breaks From Robotics With First Non-Autonomous Floor Cleaner

iRobot is moving beyond its signature autonomous vacuums, announcing the Roomba Electro Plus—a cordless, user-operated 5-in-1 device that uses electrolyzed water to disinfect floors. The launch marks the company’s most significant portfolio expansion in years, arriving alongside five new robot models designed for more compact living spaces.

The Roomba Electro Plus, priced at $399.99, represents a fundamental shift for the Bedford-based company. Unlike the brand’s iconic autonomous units, this system requires manual operation to vacuum, mop, and sanitize surfaces. By utilizing electrolyzed water technology, the device eliminates the need for chemical cleaners, with the manufacturer claiming it kills 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It includes a ThermaClean dock that handles self-washing and drying functions after use.

Simultaneously, the company is refreshing its core robotic lineup with five new models tailored for North American homes. These include the flagship Roomba Max 775, which features advanced 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI, and a series of Plus-tier robots designed to be 46% smaller than previous generations. These compact units are specifically engineered to navigate tighter layouts, reaching clearances as low as 9 cm. With suction power increased across the board and AutoWash docks that provide up to three months of hands-free maintenance, the new portfolio aims to balance deep, intentional cleaning with daily automated upkeep.
