ADLM Appoints H. Timothy Hsiao as Chief Scientific Officer

The Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine has selected Dr. H. Timothy Hsiao to serve as its chief scientific officer, effective July 21. Hsiao arrives with over 15 years of experience in scientific strategy, having previously managed major federal investments and innovation programs across the healthcare and research sectors.

Most recently, Hsiao acted as a senior innovation strategy advisor for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. His work there focused on evaluating emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum sensing, and microfluidic liquid biopsy. Prior to that, he directed scientific strategy at the Solve ME/CFS Initiative and held leadership roles at the National Institutes of Health, where he oversaw approximately $50 million in federal funding for translational research infrastructure.

In his new capacity at ADLM, Hsiao joins the executive leadership team to spearhead the organization’s scientific agenda. He will focus on integrating diagnostics and data science advancements into clinical practice, working alongside volunteer leaders and staff to expand educational programs. ADLM CEO Melanie J. Wells noted that his cross-sector experience in government, academia, and industry is essential for navigating the rapid shifts currently reshaping laboratory medicine. Hsiao holds a PhD in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University.
