SoftAtHome Scales prpl Open-Source Framework with Orange Wi-Fi 7
Orange has moved its Wi-Fi 7 repeater infrastructure to a commercial footing, utilizing a full prpl software stack developed by SoftAtHome. Following initial launches in Poland and France, the rollout marks a significant shift toward hardware-independent, operator-controlled broadband ecosystems across the company’s European markets.
The deployment proves the viability of the prpl open-source framework, which serves as a common base for broadband devices regardless of the underlying chipset. By utilizing a standardized hardware abstraction layer, SoftAtHome enables Orange to maintain consistent operator-specific services across diverse hardware generations. This architecture prevents vendor lock-in by integrating prplMesh and EasyMesh standards, allowing new Wi-Fi 7 repeaters to function seamlessly with existing gateway equipment.
Operational performance is managed through SoftAtHome’s Wifi'ON software, which automates mesh topology to optimize connectivity paths without user intervention. In Poland, the system supports up to three units per household, ensuring coverage for complex home environments. Complementing this, the Eyes'ON analytics suite provides Orange with real-time visibility into network health. CEO Arnaud Bellivier de Prin noted that the transition signifies a shift in the prpl journey, allowing operators to integrate new silicon partners while maintaining a unified subscriber experience through software updates rather than hardware swaps.
