Webster First Debuts In-App Peer-to-Peer Payments
Worcester-based Webster First Federal Credit Union is bypassing third-party apps with the launch of its new Pay a Person feature. Starting this July, members can transfer funds directly from their online banking dashboard using only a recipient’s phone number or email address, removing the need for routing or account numbers.

The integration allows users to settle everyday expenses like dinner bills, shared rent, or babysitter payments without leaving the credit union's digital ecosystem. Recipients receive a notification via text or email with instructions to claim the funds, regardless of where they hold their own accounts.
Webster First has structured the service to prioritize flexibility based on delivery speed. Transfers between Webster First members remain free and instantaneous. For external recipients, the credit union offers a free next-day delivery option, while an instant transfer alternative is available for a $2.50 flat fee. The tool is now accessible through the standard online banking interface, designed to streamline transactions for members who previously relied on external payment platforms.
