Bazooka Candy Workers Secure Wage Gains in New Teamsters Contract

More than 60 employees at the Bazooka Ring Pop facility in Moosic, Pennsylvania, have ratified a three-year labor agreement. The deal, negotiated by Teamsters Local 229, secures a 15 percent wage hike alongside expanded pension contributions and improved health care coverage for the manufacturing staff.

The agreement marks a significant victory for the production, maintenance, and shipping crews essential to the plant’s operations. Beyond the headline wage increase, the contract introduces a revamped vacation structure, higher shift differentials, and bolstered profit-sharing terms. Joe Secor, vice president of Local 229, attributed the successful outcome to the collective resolve shown by the workforce during the bargaining process.

For long-term employees, the deal provides much-needed stability. Bernie Hoover, a plant steward with over two decades of tenure at the facility, noted that the improved benefits package will provide tangible relief for workers and their families. Teamsters Local 229, based in nearby Scranton, continues to represent over 1,000 members across various industries in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
