James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems Finalizes Acquisition of Vox Media
James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems has officially closed its acquisition of New York Magazine, the Vox Media Podcast Network, and the digital news outlet Vox. The deal, first announced in May 2026, consolidates these prominent media assets into a new Lupa Systems subsidiary operating under the established Vox Media brand name.

Jim Bankoff, a co-founder of the original Vox Media, will lead the new entity as CEO. The integration brings together a diverse portfolio of legacy print, digital journalism, and audio programming. The assets include New York Magazine—winner of the 2026 National Magazine Award for General Excellence—and its six digital verticals, as well as a podcast network boasting nearly 50 shows, including popular titles like Pivot and Criminal. Vox, known for its explainer-driven news model, joins the group with its established YouTube channel and a growing base of paying subscribers.
James Murdoch stated that the acquisition aligns with his company’s existing investments in news and culture, promising to provide the necessary resources for these brands to expand their reach. Bankoff noted that the backing of James and Kathryn Murdoch offers a stable foundation for the company to pursue new growth opportunities while maintaining a focus on independent journalism. The move marks a significant shift in the media landscape, placing these three distinct cultural and news pillars under the control of the private holding company based in New York and Mumbai.
