Otsuka ICU Medical to Invest $500 Million in Texas IV Production
Otsuka ICU Medical LLC is committing over $500 million to expand its intravenous solutions manufacturing in Austin, Texas. The project, which includes a new 500,000-square-foot facility, aims to secure the domestic supply chain against systemic disruptions while pivoting toward non-DEHP product innovation for the North American market.

The expansion marks the inaugural strategic milestone for the joint venture finalized in May 2025 between ICU Medical, Inc. and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory America, Inc. By adding a significant footprint to the existing 700,000-square-foot Austin site, the company intends to integrate Otsuka’s specialized container technology with enhanced domestic production capacity. This move directly addresses the vulnerability of the concentrated North American market, which has recently faced instability due to infrastructure constraints and natural disasters.
Beyond building supply resiliency, the investment positions the firm to meet shifting regulatory demands regarding container materials. As healthcare providers prepare for a transition to non-DEHP solutions, the new facility will serve as a hub for both volume production and technical development. Yoshifumi Fujimoto, CEO of Otsuka ICU Medical LLC, stated that the initiative reinforces their long-term footprint in a clinically essential sector while ensuring the company remains agile in the face of evolving legislative requirements.
