Nanoscope Therapeutics to Showcase Optogenetic Advances in Montreal
Clinical data from Nanoscope Therapeutics’ optogenetic therapy programs will take center stage at the American Society of Retina Specialists 44th Annual Scientific Meeting in Montreal this July. The presentations will offer a dual focus on new macular degeneration trials and long-term durability results for retinitis pigmentosa patients.

On July 16, Dr. Jordi Monés will introduce the first direct-to-Phase 2 randomized, controlled trial of optogenetic therapy aimed at treating geographic atrophy in age-related macular degeneration. This presentation, scheduled during the Non-neovascular Symposium, marks a strategic expansion for the company into new therapeutic territory. Alongside this, Dr. Benjamin Bakall is set to reveal three-year follow-up data from the RESTORE Phase 2b/3 trial. These results track the durability of MCO-010, the company’s lead candidate designed to restore vision by activating retinal bipolar cells, effectively bypassing damaged photoreceptors.
Nanoscope’s MCO platform functions as a one-time, in-office injection, a delivery method intended to fit seamlessly into standard clinical workflows without requiring genetic testing. As the company awaits potential FDA approval for its retinitis pigmentosa treatment, it is simultaneously advancing programs for Stargardt disease and Leber congenital amaurosis. These upcoming presentations in Canada serve to underscore the platform's broader applicability for patients suffering from various forms of retinal degeneration.
