US Voter Opposition to Military Aid for Israel Hits Record High

A record 60% of American voters now oppose sending additional military aid to Israel, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. This shift reflects a deepening rift between the Democratic base and party leadership, as public sentiment increasingly aligns with international concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The survey highlights a stark decline in support for the US-Israel alliance, marking the highest level of opposition since polling began in November 2023. Among Democrats, the divide is particularly acute: 75% oppose continued military shipments, while only 18% favor them. For the first time in the poll's history, more respondents expressed sympathy for Palestinians (37%) than for Israelis (36%).

Public opinion is hardening against the backdrop of escalating violence and reports of man-made famine in Gaza. Half of all Americans, including 77% of Democrats, now describe Israel’s actions as genocide. Despite this, the Democratic National Committee recently voted down a resolution to suspend military aid, a move critics view as a direct defiance of the party’s own constituents. Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) warned that ignoring the base on this issue risks further political losses, following concerns that the Biden administration's stance on the conflict contributed to the party's electoral struggles in 2024.
