Spotify adds granular controls to Release Radar playlists
Listeners can now exert direct influence over their weekly Release Radar feed through new filtering options. By selecting specific categories such as new artist discovery or genre-focused curation, users gain a personalized interface that moves beyond the platform's standard automated delivery to better reflect individual tastes.

These controls, appearing at the top of the playlist on both mobile and desktop versions, allow users to toggle between five distinct categories, including "Editors’ picks" and "Pop." Alongside these navigation tools, the company is refining its underlying recommendation algorithm to increase accuracy. The update also introduces a visual refresh for the feature, complete with updated cover and header art.
This shift arrives as part of a broader strategy to recalibrate how the service handles music discovery. By integrating editorial selections with user-defined filters, the platform attempts to balance mechanical efficiency with human-curated elements. This move addresses long-standing criticism regarding the limitations of purely algorithmic music curation, offering a more responsive experience to those who feel their listening habits have become trapped in automated feedback loops.
