Flock Safety Denies Sending Cease and Desist to Newport Beach Group
A Newport Beach lecture series sparked online outrage this week after posting a cease and desist letter allegedly sent by surveillance firm Flock Safety. The document, which warned the group against hosting public discussions regarding the company’s technology, gained thousands of interactions before the company dismissed it as a malicious forgery.

The Saturday Salon, a local discussion group, claimed they discovered the letter taped to their front door, prompting an immediate wave of criticism against Flock for allegedly attempting to suppress public discourse. The post, shared widely on Instagram and Bluesky, framed the incident as a direct attempt to silence community scrutiny of the firm’s law enforcement partnerships.
Flock Safety’s leadership categorically denies authoring the document. Chief strategy officer Rahul Sidhu labeled the incident a calculated disinformation campaign, characterizing the letter as a fabrication complete with a forged signature. Chief legal officer Dan Haley confirmed the company is tracking at least two distinct forged letters circulating online that mimic its legal department’s correspondence, emphasizing that no such demands were issued by anyone at the firm.
