Curaleaf Secures First Spanish Approval for Standardized Cannabis

The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices has granted Curaleaf registration for its THC and CBD-dominant cannabis preparations, marking a regulatory milestone. This authorization follows the October 2025 implementation of Royal Decree 903/2025, which established the first formal national pathway for medicinal cannabis access in Spain. The registration, designated under official codes CAN-1 and CAN-2, allows the company to integrate its products into the country's public healthcare system.

Curaleaf leverages its long-standing infrastructure in Alicante, where its EU-GMP certified laboratory, Medalchemy SL, has operated since receiving the nation's first medicinal cannabis processing license in 2020. Boris Jordan, Chairman and CEO of Curaleaf, described the registration as a defining moment for the company's European strategy. The preparations will reach patients through hospital pharmacies as the regulatory framework continues to evolve, with the company currently working alongside healthcare professionals to facilitate the rollout.
