Detroit’s Original Chicken Shack Celebrates 70 Years With Menu Overhaul

To celebrate seven decades in business, Detroit’s Original Chicken Shack is rolling out its most significant menu revision in ten years. The Michigan-based chain is marking the launch of a new, crispier chicken tender recipe by offering one customer at each of its 26 locations free tenders for an entire year.

The promotion runs through August 2, 2026, and is open to diners who order a tender item in-store or through the brand’s loyalty app. Each winner will receive a punch card valid for a free three-piece tender meal every month through July 2027. The company is also introducing a $9.99 value bundle featuring the new tenders alongside their signature Shack potatoes, a side, sauce, and a drink.

Founded in 1956 by John and Iola Sobeck, the restaurant chain has built its reputation on fresh, never-frozen American chicken. According to Cliff Lunny, the company’s president, the revamped recipe utilizes a proprietary batter-and-flour blend designed to enhance both texture and flavor. As the brand eyes further expansion through franchising, this menu update serves as a cornerstone of its 70th-anniversary milestone.
