Paper Transport Begins Tesla Semi Evaluation in Chicago
Navigating the demands of dedicated freight, Paper Transport has integrated the Tesla Semi Long Range into its Chicago-based operations. This pilot program marks a shift for the De Pere-based carrier, which seeks to balance the rigorous performance requirements of its supply chain clients with the need for lower Scope 3 emissions.
The partnership leverages predictable routes and consistent daily mileage, creating a controlled environment to stress-test the electric Class 8 tractor. For Paper Transport, the move serves as a strategic expansion of its existing sustainability portfolio, which already includes intermodal services and a fleet that has logged over 87 million miles using compressed and renewable natural gas.
CEO Tyler Ellison noted that the company’s consultative approach requires identifying solutions that do not compromise service reliability or economic viability. Bryan Ellen, the firm’s Vice President of Maintenance, pointed to the inherent parallels between the efficiency of battery-electric technology and the company’s established dedicated operating model. By adding Tesla’s technology to its mix, the carrier aims to provide shippers with diversified options to meet carbon reduction targets while maintaining current throughput levels.
