Trump Sues Treasury and IRS for $10 Billion Over Tax Return Leaks
Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service, alleging that the unauthorized disclosure of his tax returns during his first presidential term caused severe damage to his business reputation and public standing.

The legal action, initiated in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, includes Trump’s two eldest sons and the Trump Organization as plaintiffs. The filing claims the government agencies failed to protect sensitive data, leading to public embarrassment and financial harm. The underlying leak involved records of high-profile figures, including Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, and previously fueled reports regarding Trump’s tax payments and business practices.
While the former IRS contractor responsible for the breach, Charles Littlejohn, was sentenced to five years in prison, the current administration has moved to cut ties with his former employer, Booz Allen Hamilton. Critics, including Sen. Ron Wyden, have condemned the lawsuit as a blatant conflict of interest and an abuse of office. Wyden labeled the move a "disgusting act of corruption," noting the irony of the president seeking massive taxpayer compensation while simultaneously pushing for significant budget cuts to the tax agency. This is not the first time Trump has sought federal payouts; he previously demanded $230 million from the Justice Department for costs related to investigations he faced.
