Elsevier Foundation and The Lancet honor three global health initiatives
The Elsevier Foundation and The Lancet have named the three inaugural winners of the Evidence to Impact Awards, recognizing research teams that successfully bridge the gap between clinical findings and community-level health outcomes through rigorous implementation science and local collaboration.

The winning projects address critical healthcare disparities across Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Australia. In Tanzania, the Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECCiT) project, led by Associate Professor Tim Baker, has improved care access in 79 facilities. Since June 2025, the initiative has successfully integrated emergency protocols into national systems, resulting in a 31% reduction in inpatient mortality.
In Sierra Leone, the 2YoungLives program tackles high rates of adolescent maternal mortality. By pairing pregnant girls with local mentors, the project achieved a 48% reduction in perinatal deaths and fostered economic independence for participants. Meanwhile, the ECORRA Trial in Australia addresses geographic health inequities. Led by Professor Anna Ugalde, the team is co-designing a framework to ensure rural cancer patients receive timely diagnosis and treatment, directly targeting the 72% survival gap compared to urban populations. Each team receives a $10,000 award to further their work in scaling these community-driven models.
