Google Images pivots to a discovery-driven feed for its 25th birthday
To mark a quarter-century of visual search, Google is transforming its stark, minimalist homepage into a personalized gallery. The update replaces the traditional blank search screen with a dynamic, scrolling feed of images tailored to user interests, mirroring the discovery-focused layouts of platforms like Pinterest.

The interface will feature a real-time stream of web images, allowing signed-in users in the US to organize their findings into saveable collections. These curated tabs will sit directly above the main feed, shifting the platform from a purely reactive search utility to a proactive browsing destination. Google expects to roll out these changes to English-language desktop users over the coming weeks.
Beyond the homepage redesign, Google is integrating generative capabilities into its AI Overviews. Powered by the Nano Banana 2 Lite model, the system will allow users to generate visuals directly within search results for tasks like home decor planning. While the company positions this as a tool for visualization, questions remain regarding the specific guardrails Google will employ to prevent the technology from generating inappropriate content or misrepresenting current events.
