Israeli Airstrikes Decimate Jabalia Refugee Camp
Hundreds were killed or wounded Tuesday after Israeli forces dropped six heavy bombs on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. Palestinian officials described the strike as a complete destruction of the district, which sits within a designated evacuation zone, leaving hospitals overwhelmed and critical medical supplies exhausted.
Ahmad al-Kahlout, spokesperson for Gaza's Interior Ministry, stated that the bombardment leveled the camp, which houses over 116,000 residents in a 1.4-square-kilometer area. The director of the nearby Indonesian Hospital reported at least 50 deaths from the strike alone, with victims filling floor space as fuel shortages threaten to shut down intensive care units and life-saving machinery.
This incident follows a separate strike in the al-Shati camp that claimed at least 10 lives. As of Tuesday, Gaza health officials report 8,525 fatalities since October 7, including 3,542 children. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi condemned the mounting civilian toll, warning that the disregard for international humanitarian law has become the norm, and called for an urgent ceasefire to halt the escalating crisis.
