Medline report tracks push for supply chain efficiency
Northfield-based Medline has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, detailing a shift from isolated green initiatives to integrated operational standards. The manufacturer of medical-surgical supplies highlights progress in carbon reduction and ethical sourcing, aiming to align its global distribution network with rigorous international environmental and labor benchmarks.
The report underscores specific tactical gains, most notably the Tote-Cart Initiative. By optimizing pallet and cart utilization across its distribution network, the company avoided the consumption of over 78,200 gallons of diesel fuel in 2025. This focus on logistics efficiency serves as a primary driver for the firm's efforts to lower greenhouse gas emissions while streamlining delivery routes.
Beyond logistics, the company has ramped up its ethical and environmental oversight. By the end of 2025, 46 facilities within the supply chain achieved certification from the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP), signaling adherence to international labor and human rights frameworks. The firm also expanded its use of Life Cycle Assessments to three additional product lines and rolled out paper-based packaging solutions to a second U.S. distribution center to curb plastic waste.
CEO Jim Boyle noted that sustainability has evolved into a core capability, influencing everything from supply chain design to risk management. Looking ahead, Vice President of Sustainability Francesca Olivier stated that the company plans to deepen these practices throughout 2026 by fostering closer collaborations with suppliers and healthcare customers to maintain clinical performance while mitigating environmental impact.
