ISC2 Launches Global Effort to Standardize AI Security Certification
As organizations rush to integrate artificial intelligence into their digital infrastructure, a critical gap has emerged in professional oversight. ISC2 is moving to close this void by launching a vendor-neutral certification program, inviting cybersecurity experts worldwide to help define the core competencies required to secure these evolving systems.

The Alexandria-based nonprofit, which manages over 265,000 certified members, aims to move beyond theoretical frameworks by relying on a practitioner-led methodology. Chief Operating Officer Casey Marks, Ph.D., emphasized that the industry currently lacks a universal benchmark to validate readiness for the unique security demands posed by AI. The new credential will focus on practical applications, including risk management, secure-by-design principles, data protection, and governance.
ISC2 is now soliciting volunteers to shape the certification’s curriculum and exam structure. Participants will be involved in job task analysis surveys, item development workshops, and the final pilot exam process. This collaborative approach seeks to ensure the standard reflects real-world challenges rather than academic abstractions. The organization expects to launch the pilot exam by the end of 2026, with ongoing updates provided through their digital channels. This initiative runs parallel to the "ISC2 Spotlight: AI" virtual event, where experts are currently discussing the certification roadmap and the broader shift toward AI-integrated security.
