Apricorn Launches 4TB Aegis Secure Key 3 for High-Security Portability
Packing four terabytes of encrypted storage into a pocket-sized chassis, the new Aegis Secure Key 3 from San Diego-based Apricorn aims to solve the problem of moving massive sensitive datasets. The device, which functions as a mini-SSD, offers eight times the capacity of traditional hardware-encrypted flash drives.

The ASK3 architecture replaces standard flash memory with a miniaturized solid-state drive, resulting in read speed improvements of 31 percent and write speed gains of 16 percent over the previous generation. Apricorn engineered the device to satisfy FIPS 140-3 Level 3 requirements, and the unit has already been submitted to the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Cryptographic Module Validation Program for formal verification.
Designed for environments where cloud connectivity is either impractical or insecure, the drive features a robust environmental protection system. This mechanism monitors internal temperature and electrical conditions in real time, triggering an automatic shutdown if thresholds are exceeded to prevent hardware failure or data corruption. CEO Jeanclaude Toma noted that the product responds to the growing demand for edge-computing solutions that require high-density, offline storage without compromising on 256-bit AES XTS encryption. The drive is currently available through the company’s global authorized reseller network.
