PACU Foundation Closes After Five-Year Run of Regional Giving

With its pending merger into Truliant Federal Credit Union, the PACU Foundation has shuttered its doors, distributing its remaining capital to seven local nonprofits. The move marks the end of a five-year philanthropic initiative that funneled over $250,000 into central North Carolina social services.

The final disbursement saw seven organizations receive $10,011 each. Beneficiaries include the Education Over Debt Foundation, Help, Incorporated's Square One Family Justice Center, Mooresville Area Christian Mission, A Storehouse for Jesus, Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, Winston-Salem Street School, and the Women's Resource Center of Greensboro. These funds represent the final ledger entries for a foundation established in 2020.

Funding for this exit strategy was bolstered by the final Flying Colors Charity 5K and Fun Run, which brought in $54,754, bolstered by a $27,377 match from Truliant. Jean Golden-Rumer, president of the PACU Foundation, described the conclusion as a bittersweet chapter, noting that the collective efforts of members and employees met the group's initial goal of fostering community-driven change.

Piedmont Advantage Credit Union President and CEO Dion Williams stated the foundation served as a vehicle for the institution's commitment to strengthening local communities. While the foundation now ceases operations, its support for regional groups tackling poverty, education, and domestic violence remains its legacy as the credit union transitions into its new partnership.
