Independent Autopsy Challenges ICE Version of Renee Good Killing

A private autopsy commissioned by the family of Renee Good has provided what legal experts call strong evidence against Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who fatally shot the 37-year-old mother of three in Minnesota two weeks ago, directly contradicting official claims that the officer acted in self-defense during the encounter.

The findings, released by the Chicago-based law firm Romanucci & Blandin, document three distinct gunshot wounds, including a fatal shot to the temple, and a fourth graze wound. NYU law professor Ryan Goodman noted that the trajectory of shots fired through the vehicle’s left-side window suggests a willful killing rather than a defensive reaction. While the Trump administration has labeled Good a domestic terrorist to justify the use of force, the legal team argues that video evidence and these new medical findings confirm the shooting lacked any legal justification.

The case has triggered a massive federal response that extends far beyond the initial shooting. After the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension handed the probe to the FBI, multiple Department of Justice officials in the Civil Rights Division resigned in protest. Instead of investigating the killing, the DOJ has launched a probe into Minnesota state officials, issuing subpoenas to Governor Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and several local mayors for allegedly impeding federal immigration enforcement. Governor Walz dismissed the federal pressure as a distraction from accountability, stating that the state would not be intimidated into silence regarding the death of a citizen.
