Google Rebrands NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook
Transitioning from its origins as Project Tailwind, Google is rebranding its AI-powered note-taking application to Gemini Notebook. The move signals a tighter alignment with the company’s broader artificial intelligence ecosystem, though the tool will retain its status as a standalone service while embedding deeper capabilities across Search and Gemini.

Since its initial debut in May 2023, the platform has evolved from a simple research companion into a multimedia generator capable of producing AI-driven podcasts, narrated slideshows, and short-form video clips. Google is now accelerating this integration, allowing users to connect their personal notebooks directly into the Gemini app. Plans are also underway to bridge these notebooks into AI Mode, the company's chatbot-centric search interface.
Beyond the nomenclature shift, the app is gaining the ability to interface with a secure cloud computer to execute and write code. This technical upgrade is currently live for Google AI Ultra and Workspace business subscribers, with a rollout for web-based Pro users scheduled for the coming weeks.
