Amazon Reshoots God of War After Lead Actor Injury
A torn bicep suffered by Ryan Hurst has forced Amazon MGM Studios to restart production on its God of War series. With the actor unable to recover in time for the planned October resumption, the studio is now hunting for a new Kratos to replace the star in all four completed episodes.

The production delay marks a significant setback for the adaptation of the 2018 title, which was first announced in 2022. Hurst, best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, had undergone a rigorous physical transformation for the role, reportedly gaining 40 pounds of muscle before the injury occurred on set. His departure is particularly notable given his prior connection to the franchise, having provided the voice for Thor in the sequel, God of War Ragnarök.
While the studios—Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures Television—have yet to name a successor, the decision to reshoot completed footage underscores the scale of the disruption. Replacing a lead actor mid-production remains an uncommon and costly maneuver in television, effectively pushing the show’s release timeline further into the future. Filming is currently slated to pick back up in mid-October once a new lead is secured.
