TikTok Launches AI Likeness Protection for Creators

A new opt-in verification system is rolling out to US creators, allowing them to scan for and report unauthorized AI-generated likenesses. By partnering with identity provider Jumio, the platform aims to curb deepfake abuse, mirroring similar safeguards recently implemented by YouTube to protect creator identity and digital rights.

Participants in the initial test must complete a real-time selfie scan and an official ID check to verify their identity. TikTok spokesperson Zachary Kizer confirmed that the platform does not store these identity documents, noting that facial data is strictly limited to likeness matching and identifying potential misuse. Once verified, the software automatically monitors the platform for AI-generated content that mimics the creator’s features.

Creators can review any detected material and flag unauthorized accounts or posts for removal. This rollout signals a broader industry trend where major platforms are shifting the burden of AI moderation onto individual creators, providing them with automated tools to police their own digital presence against synthetic impersonation.
