Navigating Equip Exposition: A Guide for First-Time Attendees
With nearly 30,000 professionals expected to converge on Louisville this October, navigating the million-square-foot footprint of the Equip Exposition requires more than just arrival. As the trade show prepares for its October 20–23 run, organizers are urging first-time attendees to abandon spontaneity in favor of a rigid, pre-planned strategy.

Kris Kiser, President and CEO of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, suggests that success at the Kentucky Exposition Center begins long before the doors open. Given the event's scale—which spans 17 football fields of exhibit space and a 30-acre outdoor demo yard—Kiser recommends downloading the official event app and securing lodging immediately to avoid the inevitable rush on local hotels. Registration costs currently sit at $30, but prices will rise to $60 after September 10, eventually hitting $120 for those who wait until the gate.
Strategy remains the primary tool for extracting value from the show. Organizers advise participants to isolate their top three business challenges before arrival and align their schedules with specific educational tracks or vendor demonstrations that address those gaps. For teams, the event serves as a workshop for long-term planning, with social functions like the Welcome Reception at Churchill Downs and the opening keynote by contractor Mike Holmes providing networking opportunities. To avoid the logistical bottlenecks of the main gate, veterans suggest utilizing the Crittenden Drive or Preston Highway entrances after 10 a.m. to ensure a smoother start to the day.
