Raytheon UK Unveils Sovereign Red Kite Precision Weapon
Unveiled at the Farnborough International Airshow, the Red Kite is the first precision weapon fully designed and digitally engineered within the United Kingdom. Developed by a domestic consortium, the effector aims to bolster Royal Air Force stockpile resilience through scalable, high-volume production and rapid deployment capabilities.

The weapon leverages the existing Stormbreaker airframe, ensuring compatibility across various air platforms. James Gray, managing director of Raytheon UK, stated that the project combines digital modeling with proven technologies to accelerate development cycles. By utilizing a nationwide supply chain, the program integrates specialist expertise ranging from software development in Harlow to control actuation systems in Glenrothes.
Beyond military utility, the initiative functions as a localized industrial stimulus. Raytheon UK projects the program will sustain approximately 140 high-skilled positions across England, Scotland, and Wales. This focus on sovereign manufacturing is intended to decrease reliance on external supply chains while providing the RAF with a cost-effective alternative to legacy systems like the Paveway IV.
