MedSpeed Expands California Footprint with Am-Tran Acquisition
MedSpeed has acquired California-based Am-Tran, marking a significant consolidation in the healthcare logistics sector. The move deepens the Elmhurst-based company’s reach across the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Fresno, and Los Angeles, further cementing its role in the critical transport of laboratory specimens and medical equipment.

The acquisition follows MedSpeed’s ongoing expansion strategy, supported by capital from Water Street Healthcare Partners since 2024. By absorbing Am-Tran, MedSpeed integrates a regional player into its national network, which currently employs 3,500 people and serves healthcare organizations across 39 states.
Jake Crampton, CEO of MedSpeed, emphasized that the alignment centers on shared operational standards for reliable, time-sensitive delivery. Jim Hobbs, president of Am-Tran, described the integration as a natural evolution for his firm, citing a mutual focus on workforce investment and service quality. While financial details remain undisclosed, the merger positions MedSpeed to better serve its client base, which includes 10 of the top 20 health systems in the United States.
