Air India to Shift JFK Operations to New Terminal 6 by 2028

The airline, which currently operates daily flights to Delhi and Mumbai from Terminal 4 using Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft, will maintain its existing service schedule until the transition. This relocation is part of a broader strategy to align Air India with fellow Star Alliance members, including Lufthansa, All Nippon Airways, and Swiss, who have also committed to the new facility. The proximity is expected to simplify international transfers for passengers traveling across the Americas.

Terminal 6 is currently being developed by JFK Millennium Partners, a consortium led by Vantage Group. The facility is designed to offer a boutique, guest-focused experience with modern amenities and reduced walking distances. As part of the expansion, Air India plans to open a 9,100-square-foot flagship lounge overlooking the terminal's main concourse. This addition follows the airline's recent efforts to overhaul its premium ground offerings as part of its ongoing five-year Vihaan.AI transformation program, which includes fleet renewals and significant investments in cabin technology.
