AEP Adds Marriott and Meyers to Board of Directors
American Electric Power has appointed Marriott International Chairman David Marriott and former Equinix CEO Charles Meyers to its board of directors. The move, effective July 20, brings executive experience in large-scale hospitality operations and digital infrastructure to the utility company as it prepares for a surge in electricity demand.

Bill Fehrman, AEP Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the new directors provide expertise that aligns with the firm’s strategy to scale operations while maintaining service reliability. David Marriott, who has led Marriott International since 2022, brings a background in managing complex, customer-focused service networks. His career includes overseeing hundreds of hotels and leading regional operations during the integration of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
Charles Meyers joins the board following a tenure as CEO of Equinix, where he oversaw a period of rapid growth that included doubling the company’s global data center footprint and quadrupling revenues. His experience is intended to help AEP navigate the infrastructure requirements of the digital economy. With these additions, the AEP board expands to 12 members, 11 of whom are independent. The company is currently planning a $78 billion investment program through 2030 to bolster its transmission and distribution networks across 11 states.
