China Southern Power Grid Unveils AI-Driven Energy Infrastructure
Ten minutes is all it takes for the MegaWatt Yunrui agent to map out complex grid topologies and perform risk assessments. Unveiled at the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, this system stands as a centerpiece of China Southern Power Grid’s shift toward a fully integrated electricity, carbon, and computing network.
The project secured a spot among the conference’s Top 10 Signature Exhibits, marking the only recognition of its kind for a central state-owned enterprise. This innovation reflects a broader strategic pivot to align computing infrastructure with national power systems, a priority recently formalized in China’s Government Work Report.
At the heart of this architecture lies the MegaWatt Multimodal 2.0 foundation model, designed specifically for power sector applications. Beyond planning agents, the company introduced PowerAtomOS, a proprietary operating system engineered to manage the connectivity of millions of IoT devices across its vast service area. By consolidating electricity, carbon, and computing data into a single ecosystem, the company aims to move beyond simple automation toward a comprehensive, autonomous framework for next-generation energy management.
