ROHM Releases Compact Evaluation Board for High-Efficiency Power ICs

Kyoto-based ROHM Co., Ltd. has launched the BD83070GWL-EVK-002, a new evaluation board designed to shrink the footprint of power management systems in portable electronics. By integrating the BD83070GWL buck-boost converter with essential components, the board achieves a mounting area of just 12.87 square millimeters to support ultra-compact device design.

The BD83070GWL converter is engineered for battery-dependent hardware, offering up to 97% efficiency and an ultra-low quiescent current of 2.8 microamperes. These specifications target the growing market for wearables, IoT sensors, and mobile gadgets where power conservation and space constraints are critical. The new evaluation board minimizes the circuit layout by requiring only five components in total, including the coil and capacitors.

To accelerate the development cycle, ROHM has released comprehensive reference design materials alongside the hardware. Engineers can access circuit layouts and bills of materials online, facilitating a direct path from initial testing to mass-production integration. This release addresses the industry's shift toward smaller form factors for devices ranging from smart rings and AR hardware to AI sensor nodes and wireless earbuds.
