The Galaxy Z Flip 8 blurs the line between foldables and standard phones

Samsung has retained the familiar 6.9-inch internal AMOLED display and the 4.1-inch external cover screen, keeping the core hardware specs consistent with the Z Flip 7. The device carries 12GB of RAM, 256GB of base storage, and a 4,300mAh battery. However, the user experience has shifted significantly through the introduction of native gestures on the outer display. Swiping down from the top left now reveals notifications, while the top right triggers quick settings and an upward swipe pulls up a full application drawer.

Previous iterations required third-party workarounds like Good Lock to access apps on the cover screen, but Samsung has now integrated this capability directly into the software. While this expansion of functionality makes the device more practical for heavy users, it challenges the original appeal of the flip form factor, which historically relied on intentional limitations to manage distractions. Whether this evolution enhances the daily experience or strips away the unique charm of the foldable category remains an open question.
