Elon Musk’s Grok AI leans into NSFW content generation
While Google and OpenAI scramble to sanitize their generative models, xAI is taking the opposite path. The company’s new Grok Imagine tool features a dedicated 'Spicy' mode, explicitly designed to bypass traditional industry guardrails and produce sexualized imagery and videos that competitors strictly prohibit.
Grok Imagine functions as a multimodal creative suite for Premium Plus X subscribers, offering text-to-image generation alongside an image-to-video animator. Unlike rival tools such as OpenAI’s Sora or Google’s Veo, which prioritize safety filters, xAI’s platform invites users to experiment with explicit content. Early adopters have already flooded the network with photorealistic depictions of nudity and sexualized animations, a trend Elon Musk has characterized as the resurrection of 'AI Vine.'
Beyond the controversial 'Spicy' setting, the tool supports diverse visual styles ranging from anime to photorealism, integrated with a voice-prompt interface. Usage has exploded since the feature's Monday launch, with Musk claiming over 34 million images generated to date. Despite these figures, the platform’s underlying safety architecture remains opaque. While TechCrunch testing noted limited restrictions regarding celebrity likenesses, the efficacy of guardrails against non-consensual sexual imagery remains untested. The feature is currently live on the iOS app, with an Android rollout underway.
