Eurofins Viracor Debuts T-Cell Assay for BK Virus Monitoring

Managing BK virus in transplant recipients often forces physicians into a difficult trade-off: reducing immunosuppressive therapy to boost immunity risks triggering allograft rejection. The new BKV inSIGHT™ panel (Test Code 33591) aims to refine this decision-making process. By evaluating a patient’s cellular immune response during the early stages of infection—specifically within 30 days of viral loads hitting or exceeding 1,000 IU/mL—the test helps identify those capable of controlling viral replication on their own.

Validated through flow cytometry, the assay provides results within three to four business days. Data suggests that patients showing BKV-specific immunity above the established cutoff are significantly more likely to achieve a meaningful reduction in viral load within a month. While the test has not been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, it expands Eurofins Viracor’s existing portfolio for immunocompromised patients, providing a targeted tool for monitoring transplant complications.
