Industrial AI Cybersecurity Faces Implementation Hurdle
While 87.7% of organizations are actively exploring AI for operational technology security, fewer than 8% have successfully deployed these tools across multiple functions. This gap highlights a growing tension between the urgency to defend against AI-augmented threats and the caution required to protect critical physical infrastructure.

The State of AI in OT Cybersecurity 2026 report, conducted by Takepoint Research and sponsored by Nozomi Networks and BlastWave, reveals that industry leaders are currently prioritizing AI for threat detection, anomaly monitoring, and security operations center support. Despite this focus, formal safeguards remain scarce. Only 11.9% of surveyed organizations have mapped how AI-driven decisions might impact safety systems or operational continuity, leaving a significant vulnerability in industrial environments.
Industry executives warn that the same AI capabilities enhancing defensive postures are also being weaponized by adversaries to generate polymorphic exploits and automate reconnaissance. Edgard Capdeveille, CEO of Nozomi Networks, emphasized that defenders must adopt AI to keep pace with these evolving threats. However, BlastWave CEO Tom Sego cautioned that deployment must occur behind a secure perimeter, noting that attackers are already attempting to poison the very models intended to automate network defense. As organizations navigate the next year, the challenge lies in scaling AI capabilities without exceeding the capacity of existing control frameworks and operational oversight.
