A sudden spike in memory component costs has forced Framework to revise configurations for its upcoming Laptop 13 Pro, leaving early backers facing mandatory hardware adjustments or full refunds. The company confirmed that supply chain constraints have rendered its initial pricing and memory allocation strategy unsustainable for current preorders.
Framework cited a more than twofold increase in the cost of LPCAMM2 memory modules as the primary driver for these changes. While the company retains enough physical stock to satisfy all pending orders, the current inventory mix fails to align with the specific 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB requests made by customers. Consequently, those affected are receiving notifications that their machine specifications have been altered to reflect available supply.
New orders now reflect a higher entry point, with the base prebuilt model featuring an Intel Core Ultra 5 325, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage starting at $1,599. This represents a $100 increase over the original launch pricing. Framework has extended an offer of full deposit refunds to any customers dissatisfied with the revised configurations, maintaining its reputation for transparency during the broader industry-wide memory shortage.
