Harley-Davidson Lifts Full-Year Outlook After Strong Second Quarter

Harley-Davidson reported resilient second-quarter results fueled by a 3% jump in North American retail motorcycle sales, prompting leadership to raise full-year guidance. Despite a significant revenue decline within its financial services arm, the company’s core motorcycle business saw improved profitability and a successful rollout of new models.

CEO Artie Starrs attributed the performance to the strength of the company’s domestic retail business and a disciplined focus on dealer inventory levels. Global shipments of motorcycles climbed 9% compared to the previous year, hitting 39,209 units, while the company’s adjusted EBITDA margin for its motor segment reached 10.4%, up from 9.3% in the same period last year. These gains provided the momentum necessary to boost projections for both retail sales and wholesale shipments for the remainder of 2026.

The company’s overall financial picture remains complex due to the ongoing transition of Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS) toward a capital-light model. This shift contributed to a 55% drop in HDFS revenue and a 69% decline in its operating income, though the segment continues to align with long-term strategic goals. Meanwhile, the LiveWire electric division reported a narrowed operating loss of $18 million, bolstered by increased sales of both electric motorcycles and STACYC balance bikes.

Looking ahead, Harley-Davidson expects its annual motorcycle retail sales to reach between 133,500 and 138,500 units, a notable increase from its previous guidance. The company maintains a strong cash position of $1.9 billion, supporting its commitment to shareholder value through ongoing dividend payments and share repurchases.
